The purpose of this safe stop guide is to provide a general working procedure for the safe shut-down and start-up of work equipment. The procedure includes existing media for energy such as electricity, steam, compressed air, hydraulics, positional energy, chemicals etc.

The guide contains a basic definition of safe stops and a description of the requirements that need to be met by an organisation in order for work with the shut-down and start-up of work equipment to be done in a safe manner.

Management is the entity that is always responsible for health and safety issues. Responsibilities cannot be delegated, but tasks can be delegated to others in the organisation. It is important that procedures, checklists and instructions are well-rooted among those who will use them.
