Assessment criteria for testing with over or under pressure

Assessment criteria in this document govern activities related to personal safety during testing with over or under pressure in accordance with [AFS 2023:13, §§ 4–22, Chapter 12 – Testing with over or under pressure]. SSG 7918E is an assessment checklist based on the provisions of the regulation.

The equipment concerned is not limited to pressure vessels, tanks, and pipelines, but also includes devices such as drainage wells, hoses, refrigeration units, ventilation systems, and wind tunnels.

Before testing with over or under pressure, an inspection and risk assessment must be carried out covering the sources of risk and associated hazards linked to the testing. Based on the risk assessment, all necessary measures shall be taken to prevent ill health or accidents.

The risk assessment must be documented in writing. It shall specify which risks exist and whether they are serious or not.

Risks associated with testing of equipment made from brittle materials shall receive special attention.

Further information on workplace risks can be found in the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s provisions on systematic work environment management ([AFS 2023:1]). These include rules on how the employer shall regularly examine working conditions and assess potential risks in the operations, as well as rules requiring measures to be taken to prevent such risks.
