Design and manufacture of welded metal storage tanks

Orientering

This standard deals with technical regulations and inspection during the design, manufacture, installation, testing and labelling of storage tanks containing liquid or liquefied gases. The standard also provides references to national regulations relating to such storage tanks.

The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning regulates calculation requirements during the design and manufacture of all permanent storage tanks that are considered to be structures or part of a structure, and hence these requirements are covered by the Planning and Construction Act [plan- och bygglagen (2010:900), PBL]. All calculation and design requirements for storage tanks where the pressure above the surface of the liquid is less than or equal to 0.5 bar come under the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s design and manufacturing regulations. Steel structures must be executed in accordance with the Eurocode standard if [EKS 11] is followed. Specific requirements for storage tanks designed for flammable liquids can be found under [MSBFS 2018:3]. Swedish Environmental Protection Agency regulations [NFS 2017:5] are applicable to secondary protection in water conservation areas. All usage and inspection requirements can be found in [AFS 2017:3] and [MSBFS 2018:3].

Planning permission is not required if the municipality has decided in the implementation plan or the district regulations that exemptions are to apply with regard to the planning permission requirements for storage tanks and other permanent facilities. The owner of the facility must ascertain the local criteria.
