Vibrations in rotating machinery and its equipment – requirements and recommendations for procurement, operation and maintenance

Orientering

This standard describes requirements and recommendations for vibration conditions of rotating machinery. The aim is for equipment to maintain low vibration levels over time and thereby reduce the risk of costly and unnecessary maintenance.

The requirements and recommendations are intended both for procurement and operation of machinery and equipment. The goal is that a machine mounted and commissioned in its intended location, must not under normal operating conditions vibrate or emit vibrations which
– reduces or limits full availability, full site utilisation and/or full quality yield
– affect its service life in a negative way
– result in increased maintenance costs under normal operating conditions.

This document deals with the technical vibration bases of major importance for achieving this goal. The document is based on practical experience within industry and ISO standards. These applied ISO standards from ISO TC 108 are also available as Swedish standard with the prefix SS.

The vibration requirements apply to equipment in situ, that is, correctly mounted on its specific foundation and running within specified conditions such as rotational speed, voltage, flow, pressure and load.

This standard is primarily intended for measurement using piezoelectric accelerometers. Vibration levels in the document are based on measurement outside bearing arrangements. In certain cases, vibration can be measured directly on the shaft using relative transducers (so-called B-transducers). This standard does not cover that area, since it applies to only a few machine types and sound knowledge of the machine is required in order to assess the results.
