Titel
Optimisation of storage
Orientering
This guide is based on common experiences and accepted theories about what it takes to manage a storage facility in an optimal manner.
Stores optimisation means choosing the right articles at the right value and the right quantity to keep in stock, based on risk and cost. The guide addresses the overall focus areas within the storage facility development and is designed to be applicable regardless of organisational structure. The guide is primarily aimed at managers who are responsible for storage and/or organisational development and also provides suggestions directed at storage personnel.
A prerequisite for high operational safety is that the facility ensures the availability of spare parts in order to reduce the shortage cost in terms of lead time. However, a high level of availability does not mean that all spare parts should be stored locally. An optimisation aims to clarify what is necessary to keep in stock, based on the needs and conditions of the plant.
Both organisational and physical conditions are addressed in the guide, to promote high operational safety and availability. The guide also discusses the decisions that need to be made, from department level to group level, to be able to use an optimal flow of goods, such as requirements for spare parts storage, maintainability, maintenance safety and functional safety.
