Painting of sulphide coated surfaces in tanks

This report describes experiences from a project which investigated the cause of blistering in an internal coat of paint in a tank. This blistering gradually led to cracking and corrosion. There was a desire to investigate whether the failure was due to the fact that the surface of the steel contains an inorganic sulphur compound (sulphide coating), or due to the paint system selected or work carried out incorrectly.
